Ford has announced that a unique 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca painted in Grabber Blue will be put on auction at the 40th Annual Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction with proceeds going to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).

At the auction’s stage, providing commentary will be also the great Parnelli Jones who won the 1970 Trans-Am season opener in a Boss 302 and the Laguna Seca is named after the track where he won that race.

The one-of-one production unit gets black accents on the roof, mirrors and spoiler, Citic Diecastel wheels and C-Stripe. There is also a Grabber Blue grille surround. The cabin is equipped with Recaro seats with Grabber Blue seat embroidery and Rear X-Brace.

Like the standard model, power is provided by a 5.0-liter V8 engine with 440 hp (328 kW / 446 PS) and 380 lb-ft (515 Nm) of torque. It is connected to a six-speed manual transmission which sends power to the rear wheels through a Torsen limited-slip differential.

Full press release can be found below. Note that the MSRP of either the Boss 302 and Laguna Seca models have yet to be officially announced. Current peculation has them priced between  $40,000 and $50,000. We’ll find out the real price soon enough, as the auction takes place at the end of this month.

TWO FORD MUSTANG LEGENDS JOIN FORCES FOR CHARITY AT 40TH ANNUAL BARRETT-JACKSON SCOTTSDALE AUCTION

  • A one-of-one factory-painted Grabber Blue 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca will be auctioned for charity Saturday, Jan. 22, to help Barrett-Jackson celebrate its 40th Annual Collector Car Auction in Scottsdale, Ariz.
  • All proceeds from the auction of the car above MSRP will benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, a leader in research leading to a cure for Type 1 diabetes
  • Powered by a smooth, high-winding 444-horsepower 5.0-liter V8, the Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca is the best-handling Mustang ever

Dearborn, Mich., Jan. 6, 2011 - A racing legend and a race-inspired car will team up to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) at the 40th Annual Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction at WestWorld in Scottsdale, Ariz.

A spectacular, one-of-a-kind factory-painted Grabber Blue 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca will be sold to the highest bidder with none other than racing great Parnelli Jones providing commentary from the auction stage with Ford's Mustang team. Jones won the 1970 Trans-Am season opener in a Boss 302 and the Laguna Seca is named after the track where he won that race. The event will be televised live on SPEED channel.

"I am very excited to see that Ford is carrying on the tradition of the Boss Mustang," said Jones. "Ford had the right ingredients to bring back this legendary car and it's a great addition to the Mustang lineup."

Alongside Jones on the auction stage will be Ford's President of The Americas Mark Fields and Mustang Chief Engineer Dave Pericak.

"Like the legendary Parnelli Jones, the Boss Mustang we will be auctioning is truly one-of-a-kind. It is the only 2012 Grabber Blue Boss 302 Laguna Seca we will ever build," said Fields. "The winning bidder on this car will not only become part of Mustang history but also will be a pioneer in the next chapter of the Boss legacy. At the same time, he or she will be contributing to a worthy cause, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation."

All proceeds from the auction of the car above MSRP will benefit JDRF, a leader in research leading to a cure for Type 1 diabetes. During the past four years, Ford - partnering with Barrett-Jackson - has raised nearly $2.5 million for charity through sales of vehicles at auction.

"With its combination of hot styling and serious performance, Ford's Boss Mustang has always been at the top of the list for collectors," said Steve Davis, president of Barrett-Jackson Company. "Since this Boss Mustang will have a very low production number and be specially built for our 40th anniversary event, the new owner will have a special piece of performance history for their collection. It's a rare opportunity to support charity while taking home a very desirable modern collectible car."

This Boss 302 Laguna Seca - a one-of-one production unit - was built specifically for auction at Barrett-Jackson. In addition to the unique Grabber Blue body color, it features:

Distinctive black accents on the roof, mirrors and spoiler, Citic Dicastal wheels and C-Stripe
Recaro seats with Grabber Blue seat embroidery and Rear X-Brace
Grabber Blue grille surround
The Laguna Seca package pares the race-inspired 2012 Boss 302 down to its essential elements, with aggressive suspension, chassis and aerodynamic tuning, creating a ready-for-racing Boss.

The Boss Mustang is set to become the quickest, best-handling, straight-production Mustang ever offered by Ford. In fact, Ford would not green-light Boss Mustang production until track testing confirmed it would top one of the world's best at the time - the 2010 BMW M3.
The Boss 302 Laguna Seca delivers more than 1.03 g of lateral acceleration, stopping distances shortened by three feet from 60 mph over Boss, 0-60 mph acceleration improvements of one tenth of a second, and an overall expected lap time improvement of one to two seconds versus the standard Boss on a typical road course.

The limited-production Mustang Boss 302 and Laguna Seca will be built at AutoAlliance International Assembly Plant in Flat Rock, Mich.

Press Release

FHI launched the Subaru Impreza WRX STI spec C

Tokyo, December 21, 2010 - Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. (FHI), the maker of Subaru automobiles, today introduced the "Subaru Impreza WRX spec C", a new addition to the current WRX STI line-up. The model goes on sale today through Subaru dealerships in Japan.

Based on the Impreza WRX STI, the iconic sport model of Subaru, the WRX STI spec C model features enhanced engine and chassis performance as well as a lighter body on the premise of driving in motor sports. The model further strengthens its presence in the high performance car arena by offering sheer excitement and unique driving sensations as a distinctive sport model, in line with the performance level originally delivered by the Impreza WRX STI.

The twin scroll turbocharger newly adopted ball bearings for the turbine axle bearing, and the ECU (Engine Control Unit) program was also exclusively tuned. Thus the engine of the spec C model increases the maximum torque, and provides quicker response and improved accelerating performance. The adoption of an aluminum engine hood, laminar window glasses and a downsized battery resulted in a lighter body, which further refines the model's driving performance. Thanks to its specially tuned front & rear suspensions, the chassis offers stable and linear driving control even in marginal driving conditions.

Subaru further enhances the WRX STI line-up by introducing this STI spec C model, in addition to the regular WRX STI model and STI A-Line model, the AT version.

Outline of Subaru Impreza WRX STI spec C

Enhancement of Engine performance:

  • Ball bearings of the turbine axle were newly adopted to reduce friction in the turbocharger. With the optimized ECU programming, the engine increases the maximum torque by 8 Nm, compared to the base WRX STI model, and it offers smoother and quicker response to the accelerator pedal and excellent accelerating performance.
  • An inter-cooler water spray prevents rise in intake-air temperature at continued high-load driving, providing stable engine performance and improved efficiency.

Enhancement of Chassis performance:

  • Reinforcement of the cross member in front-suspensions offers a linear steering response.
  • Rear LSD (Limited Slip Differential) system was changed to a mechanical type from a Torsen type to obtain the steady and powerful traction during cornering.
  • Bridgestone "POTENZA RE070" (245/40R18) were adopted to enhance cornering ability and higher grip performance, especially in dry conditions.
  • Nimble handling with a firm steering feel is assured by increasing oil flow volume in the power steering system.

Lightened body:

  • An aluminum engine hood and a downsized battery, which make the front section of the vehicle lighter, produce better maneuverability.
  • Laminar glasses were adopted in the front and side windows. They lightened the upper section of the body weight, resulting in improved stability during cornering.
  • Newly-designed lightweight 18-inches alloy wheels are standard to offer excellent road-hugging property by reducing unsprung weight.

Others:

  • A structural change of fuel pomp provides stable fuel delivery even on high-load driving.
  • Gold colored "brembo" brake calipers are standard.
  • The front bucket seats (fabric with red stitch) are standard on models with 18-inches alloy wheels.
  • The "RECARO" seats are optional with SRS front side airbags and SRS curtain airbags on models with 18-inches alloy wheels.

Major specifications:

  • Engine type: Horizontally-Opposed 4-cylinder DOHC 16-valve turbocharged engine
  • Displacement: 1,994 cc
  • Maximum output: 227kW (308 PS)/6,400 rpm
  • Maximum torque: 430 Nm (43.8 kgfm)/4,400 rpm
  • Turbo type: Ball-bearing type twin scroll turbocharger
